Emeralds and the Bible
In the Bible, John the apostle had a vision of the glory of God in heavens and he had nothing to compare with the brilliancy round the throne but the emerald.
The throne of God…and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. (Rev.4:3b)
In other time the same apostle describing New Jerusalem in heavens says:
And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones…; the fourth, an emerald. (Rev.21:19)
The breastplate of the Jewish high priest by divine command contained twelve precious stones representing each of the tribes of Israel. Emeralds are believed to represent the tribe of Judah, where would come Jesus of Nazareth. So the Bible says:
And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work…and thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four row of stones…and the second row shall be an emerald.(Exo.28:15,17)
